• Capture from the menu bar

  A region you drag out, any open window, or a full display — with a separate menu item per display on a multi-monitor setup.

• Freeze-frame selection

  The screen is captured first and the selection is made on the frozen picture, so the overlay can never end up in the shot and a moving UI can never change under the selection.

• The annotation editor

  Rectangle, ellipse, arrow and pixelate, each with its own colour and stroke width, plus undo, redo and zoom. Every capture opens straight into it.

• Copy and save

  A flattened, full-resolution PNG to the clipboard, or a timestamped file in a folder you chose the first time you saved. Optionally revealed in Finder as soon as it lands.

• Rebindable global hotkeys

  Region capture is bound out of the box; window and full-screen capture ship unbound so they cannot collide with a shortcut you already rely on.

• Sandboxed and network-free

  The app runs inside Apple's App Sandbox, reaches only the folder you picked, and carries no network entitlement at all.

Small, concrete, and close enough that they are worth naming. These are the changes most likely to appear in the next release.

• An editor menu that matches the editor

  Save and Copy currently sit under File and Edit because that is where a text editor puts them. This is not a text editor: the capture and markup verbs belong together in one menu, named after what they do.

• An About section in Preferences

  The version you are running, a direct link to the feedback form, and links to the privacy policy and terms — reachable from inside the app instead of only from this site.

• A listing that says what the app is

  The App Store subtitle is currently three adjectives and no noun. It will name the category first, so nobody has to open the page to find out what ShotSumo does.

Real intentions with real work behind them, and no schedule. If any of these turns out to be a bad idea on closer inspection, it will be dropped and this page will say so.

• An optional paid tier

  ShotSumo is free today and the whole app is usable. At some point there will be an optional subscription, sold and billed by Apple, and it is what would let this keep getting worked on. Two things are settled about it already: everyone who installed the free version keeps what they have, and the paid tier is bought through the App Store — ShotSumo never sees a payment detail.

• A direct download outside the App Store

  For people who would rather not go through the store at all: the same app, signed and notarised by Apple so macOS opens it without complaint, downloaded from here. It needs signing work that has not been done yet.

• More editor, carefully

  The four tools cover the common cases. Anything added has to earn its place in a window that opens in well under a second — that constraint decides what gets built far more than the list of things that could be.

The useful half of a roadmap. These are not missing features waiting for time — they are decisions, and they are not going to be reversed quietly.

• Cloud storage or a share-link service

  No uploading screenshots to get a link. That is the feature every other screenshot tool is built around, and it is the exact thing this one exists to avoid.

• An account

  No sign-up, no email, no licence key to type in. If a paid tier arrives, your App Store purchase is the entire identity system.

• Telemetry, ads, or third-party SDKs

  Not anonymised, not aggregated, not "to improve the product", not opt-out. None.

• A cross-platform rewrite

  ShotSumo is a native macOS app in Swift, and being native is most of what makes it fast. A shared runtime that also runs on Windows would cost exactly the thing people install this for.
