ShotSumo
Privacy Policy
Overview
ShotSumo is a native macOS app that captures and annotates screenshots entirely on your Mac. It does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data outside your own machine. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no user account of any kind.
What ShotSumo collects
Nothing.
This is not only a policy. The version on the Mac App Store today ships without the
com.apple.security.network.client entitlement, which is what macOS requires
before an app may open an outbound connection at all. Network access is therefore not
merely unused — it is absent from what the app is permitted to do, and that is inspectable
by anyone who cares to look at the binary.
Screenshots you capture, and the annotations you make on them, stay on your machine unless you explicitly copy or save them yourself — and you choose where they go.
Screen Recording permission
ShotSumo asks macOS for the Screen Recording permission through the operating system's own prompt. That permission is what makes capturing the screen possible at all; without it the app cannot function. Nothing is ever captured without an explicit action from you — a menu item or a keyboard shortcut you chose to press.
Where your files go
Copied screenshots go to your system clipboard. Saved screenshots are written as PNG files to the folder you chose the first time you saved — ShotSumo has no built-in default location and does not pick one for you. It runs inside Apple's App Sandbox, so the folder you picked is the only place outside its own container it can write at all.
ShotSumo does not upload your screenshots anywhere, because it cannot.
If a paid tier ships
There are no subscriptions, in-app purchases, or payments in the current version — there is nothing to buy and nothing billed. A future version may add an optional, auto-renewing subscription, sold and processed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store and StoreKit.
If that ships, two things follow, and it is more honest to write them down now than to quietly amend this page later. First, ShotSumo will need the network entitlement it does not have today, because verifying a purchase means talking to Apple. Second, ShotSumo will still never see or handle your payment details — Apple will, under Apple's own Privacy Policy — and the only traffic ShotSumo will be responsible for is the standard StoreKit exchange about a receipt.
Nothing else on this page changes: no telemetry, no analytics, no third-party SDKs, and your screenshots remain outside all of it. This page will be updated before that version ships, not after.
This website
This site is static HTML with no cookies, no analytics, and no tracking scripts of any kind. The one page that sends anything anywhere is the feedback form, and it sends only what you type into it: your message, and an email address if you chose to leave one. It is delivered straight to the developer, and is not used for anything other than replying to you.
The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel's infrastructure may log standard web-server data (such as IP addresses) as part of normal operation, independently of ShotSumo — see Vercel's Privacy Policy.
